Suggestion for
the US Government to Promote Nationwide the Addition of New
Course in Creation and Invention at All Levels of Schools
For such
a purpose as the title of this article shows it is nary for
the government to take charge of compiling and promoting
textbook of creation and invention.
Theoretical basis: The contemporary inventions of computer,
car, locomotive, airplane etc. are patented inventions.
Invention is so important, why not to compile a textbook
of creation and invention?
A
course in creation and invention is as important as
mathematics, physics, chemistry, languages, etc.
The carrying
out of a policy relevant to the above suggestion will
undoubtedly speed up the development of society and science,
as well as bring up economic returns.
The
training of millions of inventors begins from the textbook
of creation and invention.
The
history of mankind has fully indicated the essentiality of
creation and invention.
Though
creation and invention are indispensible, currently no
school from elementary school to university has offered a
course in creation and invention; only a few schools and
experts have compiled he textbook of creation and invention
, for example:
1.
Design and
Practice of Invention and Innovation (Chinese version)
2.
XIAO Yunlong et
alias: Inventions College Guide; Zhongnan University Press
3.
The American
educationist McMack proposed teaching of creation and
invention to train the student’s ability of creation and
invention, after his experiments and research for more than
ten years.
4.
. P. Guilford
“Creative Talent—Their Nature, Purpose and Culture.”
5.
German Courses
in creation and invention.
The German
elementary and middle schools encourage the students to
create and invent. A Catholic high school in Bavaria offers
the selective course in invention for teenagers’ study. That
school is also a regular participant in the Nurenberg
Invention Exhibition. For instance, in this year the
students of that school brought to the exhibition their 13
items of invention including cigarette filter made of algae,
tractor combined with mowing machine, and golf serving
machine.
Although
many men of insight have done the appreciable work to
compile teaching materials of creation and invention, the
quantity and popularity of such materials are by-far
inadequate. Therefore, it is currently necessary for the
government, educational circle, and the whole society to
promote and popularize creation and invention, so as to
bring creation and invention into full play for the
development of human civilization, and advancement of
science.
In the
past the famous Chinese educational specialist Mr. TAO
Xingzhi said “Everywhere, anytime, and everybody are
suitable for creation.”
Mr. Tao
Xongzhi was born in 1891. He studied in the US. Firstly, he
entered University of Illinois to study municipal
administration, and in the next year he was granted MA
Degree of political studies. In 1915 he entered the
Education College of Columbia University, so this year is
the centennial of Mr. Tao Xingzhi’s going to the US for
study.
The
course in creation and invention does not aim at the
students’ considerable products of creation and invention at
the stage of their study. Instead, it is for the purpose of
arousing their interest in and pensive way of creation and
invention, to lay a foundation for their future creation and
invention. Some students many not be able to invent
something, but in their future job the problems they
encountered will trigger their inventive thinking. In brief,
the course in creation and invention will cultivate millions
of inventors to bring about tremendous power to speed up the
development of society; if such course is popularized at all
levels of schools in the whole country. Such practice is a
fundamental and long-running strategy to make a country
wealthy.
It is
necessary for the whole society to promote and popularize
creation and invention
Fifteen-year-old Jack Andraka’s invention of early
diagnostic test of pancreatic cancer reduced the cost to
1/26667, and raised the efficiency to 400 times, as compared
to the previously used old method.
The
promotion and popularization of creation and invention will
enable everybody of the society to cultivate themselves a
sense of creation and invention, as well as to get to know
what has already been invented, and what has not been. The
majority of People hold that creation and invention are far
beyond their ability. In fact, some inventions are top
science and technology; but not all inventions are so.
Sometimes, a simple thought is a creation or invention. If a
person who has a useful thought is not a technological
expert, ne can provide an expert or company with his
valuable idea to cooperatively reach success.
Thomas
Edison invented more than 1000 items, though he did not
possessed a high academic degree; but his inventions of
electric bulb and cinema projector brought up tremendous
economic returns.
The
inventions of computer and internet raised the speed of data
processing to thousands of times.
In 2001
the British scholar John Hawkins pointed out in his book ,
which is entitled “The Creative Economy”, that creative
economy of the world produces 22 billion US dollars per day.
The key
to the accelerated development of a modern country is the
popularization of education including the education of
creation and invention, which will bring up the
multi-faceted progress of the whole society.
Let us
kindle the spark of everybody’s wisdom of creation and
invention.
